Have you been in a situation (or multiple situations), where you felt that your safety or that of someone you care about was threatened or where your personal boundaries were crossed? or maybe you experienced vicarious trauma by witnessing or hearing about traumatic events that have happened to others in your life or at work. Regardless of what has occurred, we understand and are here to help in a kind and non-judgemental way.

Traumatic events can impact people in many different ways, including:

  • fear/anxiety, including increased startle response

  • physiological distress when near triggers or high arousal (e.g., shaking, nausea)

  • flashbacks or nightmares

  • a tendency to avoid places, scents, or things that may remind you of the event(s)

  • feelings of guilt, shame, or self-blame

  • changes in the way you view yourself, others, and the world (e.g., “no one can be trusted”)

  • dissociation or difficulties remembering the details of the event(s)

The effects of trauma can have significant impacts on your life, emotions, and relationships with others. We know it can be hard to talk about, and work with you at your own pace to help you find safety/security, process what has happened, break unhelpful patterns, and build a life worth living.

At the Ontario-Wide Psychology Clinic (OWPC),we have several therapists who have dedicated their time to learning about, and taking additional training courses in, trauma therapies, like CBT and EMDR. We provide trauma therapy to adults living in Ontario (e.g., Ottawa, Toronto, Guelph, Hamilton).
