Access help for your child at a reduced-rate through

OWPC’s Therapy Training Program

To improve access to therapy and help increase capacity within the mental health field, we provide placements to psychology graduate students who are able to offer therapy at a reduced rate.

What services are offered through OWPC’s training program?

  • Individual Therapy for children and adolescents using evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT).

  • Parent coaching to help parents learn new ways to respond to their child’s emotions and behaviours.

  • Parent workshops and groups to help parents learn strategies to improve their child’s mental health.

Who is eligible to receive services through OWPC’s training program?

We are currently able to provide virtual therapy and parent coaching to children or parents of children:

  • Ages 8-17.

  • Who are located in Ontario, Canada.

  • With primary concerns of anxiety, OCD, low self-esteem, school avoidance, and/or difficulties with stress management.

  • Who are comfortable meeting with two therapists or being ‘observed’, as the supervising psychologist may also join some appointments to support the trainee’s development and ensure quality care.

We do NOT provide emergency/crisis services. If your child is experiencing a mental health crisis, we recommend calling a crisis line, such as the Kids Help Phone 1-800-668-6868  or going to your local emergency room. We also do NOT provide input on issues relating to custody and access.

How much do services through OWPC’s training program cost?

Therapy fees vary depending on the trainee’s level of experience.

  • Masters level students - $60/hour session

  • Doctoral level students - $175/hour session

Receipts will have both the trainee’s and the supervising psychologist’s name on them, and are typically reimbursed by insurance/benefit plans covering psychological services. We always recommend you check with your insurance provider before initiating services with us to verify your coverage if you are hoping to have your fees reimbursed.

Note: Therapy is time-limited. Trainees are usually with us for a minimum of four months. At the end of their placement, you will have the option to discontinue services, seek services at another clinic offering reduced-rate fees, seek ‘free’ services in the public sector, or work with another service provider on our team (e.g., registered social worker - $175/hour or clinical psychologist - $250/hour).

Workshops and groups range from $50-$75 per session. Contact us to learn more about current offerings.
