Therapy for Self-esteem/Self-worth

Do you every notice yourself thinking that you’re dumb? unloveable? unworthy? or ugly?

Do these thoughts bring your mood and/or motivation down? Or make it hard for you to connect with others? take risks? or go out and build the life you’ve always dreamed of?

How you think and feel about yourself can have a profound impact on your mood and daily actions. Sometimes we mistakenly believe that we don’t deserve better and yet we would never say that someone we care about if they were struggling with the same. Learning to challenge these unhelpful negative beliefs about yourself can help you move one step closer to building a life that brings you joy and fulfillment.

How will you help me improve my self-esteem/self-worth?

At the Ontario-Wide Psychology Clinic (OWPC), we work with you to start identifying any unhelpful thoughts, beliefs, or patterns of behaviour that maintain your low self-esteem/self-worth. Perhaps you constantly explain away compliments from others, apologize for things that aren’t your fault, or agree with others rather than share your true thoughts/opinions. Most people’s unhelpful thoughts/behaviours are so automatic that they forget that we can learn to challenge these and start to think/act differently. BUT it is possible to feel better about yourself and develop self-confidence!

In addition to better understanding and challenging your thoughts and feelings about yourself, your therapist may also work with you to uncover any underlying experiences or difficulties that may be contributing to how you feel. Depending on what these may be (e.g., traumatic experiences, eating difficulties/body dysmorphia), your therapist may also recommend a specific evidence-based treatment to address these issues.
