We know that finding the “right fit” is so important!

Different approaches work for different people and different areas of need.

Each of the therapists on the OWPC team were selected because they’re trained in multiple therapeutic modalities, allowing them to integrate approaches to find the best fit for you.

  • CBT looks at the connections between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours and helps you to change unhelpful patterns. Research has found that CBT is effective in treating anxiety, depression, perfectionism, body image concerns, panic attacks, and more!

  • Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is an action-oriented form of therapy that helps you move towards value-driven behaviours and live a meaningful life. In ACT, you’ll learn to stop avoiding, denying, and struggling with your thoughts and feelings and instead use strategies like cognitive diffusion to help yourself be more present and reduce your suffering. Learn more about ACT here.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a psychotherapy modality that is effective for the treatment of many mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, panic, phobias, PTSD, and trauma. In EMDR therapy, clients access and reprocess traumatic memories and other adverse life experiences to bring these to an adaptive resolution. The reprocessing of distressing events/memories are done in a structured format to help clients see things from an adaptive perspective and ultimately relieve the symptoms they were suffering. Ultimately, EMDR therapy challenges emotions, thoughts, or behaviors resulting from distressing events and allows one’s brain to resume its natural healing process.

  • DBT helps you to build a life worth living by improving mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Comprehensive Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) involves individual therapy, skills group, and phone coaching. At OWPC, we do not provide comprehensive DBT, but incorporate the framework and skills into our individual work with clients. If we feel that you would benefit from comprehensive DBT we will recommend that to you and help you find a practice offering this.

Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy... Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.”
