Parent-Child Relationship Difficulties
Services For Parents
While a therapist can meet with a child/youth once a week, parents/caregivers are there each and every day. We know that parents are a key part of their child’s treatment and that increasing a parent’s knowledge, skills, and self-efficacy can positively impact their child.
Contact us to learn more about how to support your child. We draw from a number of parent-based interventions (e.g., EFFT, FBT, and PL-CBT) and can help you become your child’s emotions and behaviour coach. Parent consultation may be especially helpful for young children or teens who are uninterested in participating in therapy at this time.
Diagnosis
Psychodiagnotic assessments can be helpful in determining whether you/ your child meets criteria for a mental health diagnosis, such as Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Anorexia Nervosa, Social Anxiety Disorder, etc and in better understanding your child’s difficulties. Although a diagnosis or “label” is not always required, it can be helpful in giving your family something to externalize as well as in communicating with other providers such as your family doctor or a child’s school. Please note that we do not provide psychoeducational assessments (e.g., testing for learning disabilities or giftedness), as these need to be conducted in-person.
Additional Services
Our team has conducted numerous groups, workshops, and talks and can tailor one to best meet the needs of your group/organization. Contact us to learn more. You can also view our current offerings at the link below.
