Welcome to the Ontario-Wide Psychology Clinic!
Therapy from the comfort of your home
About Us
Our team of psychologists, clinical social workers, and registered psychotherapists, provide virtual therapy to children, adolescents, and adults across Ontario for a range of difficulties including anxiety, perfectionism, OCD, depression, low self-esteem, eating disorders, poor body image, trauma, life stressors, and difficulties with emotion regulation. We draw from evidence-based treatments and therapy is tailored to meet the needs of each individual/family. We also communicate with other health care professionals, such as dieticians and family doctors to coordinate care as needed.
Dr. Felicia Chang (Clinical Psychologist) founded the OWPC to make eating disorder treatment more readily available to those without service providers in their area or who are faced with long local waitlists. The team has since grown and now also provides psychotherapy for a number of other presenting concerns as indicated above. Our team members have training across a number of different therapeutic modalities and collaborate with you to find an approach that will work best. All of us here at the OWPC are passionate about client-centred care and helping you learn more about yourself as well as gaining skills to work through any difficulties.
We typically begin with a mental health assessment, which may include:
-
Clinical interviews are a chance for us to get to know more about you or your child and how we can help. They usually last 60-90 minutes and for youth can involve both the child and parents, depending on a family’s preferences and the consent of the identified client.
-
We have access to a number of validated psychometric questionnaires that can be administered electronically. These questionnaires can help us to understand the severity of you/your child’s symptoms and aid in the diagnostic process.
-
If you’re seeking treatment for an eating disorder, it will be important to make sure that there is medical monitoring from a family doctor, nurse practitioner, or pediatrician.
Based on our assessment, we’ll provide you with the following
-
Psychologists and physicians (e.g., family doctors, pediatricians, and psychiatrists) are the only health professions who can communicate a mental health diagnosis.
There are many different types of therapy, and so we’ll also discuss which evidence-based therapy would be most helpful for you/your child.
-
Our team is trained in a number of different therapeutic approaches (e.g., CBT, FBT, DBT, ACT, EFFT) and draw from the approaches that will best meet you child’s needs.
-
Many children and youth benefit from parental involvement in their care. We can help you learn various strategies to support your child and help them to overcome their difficulties.
If you’re child is not agreeable to participating in psychotherapy, we can also work with you (parents/caregivers) on your own using parent-based interventions such as EFFT or Parent-led CBT
-
Our team has trained/worked in numerous cities across Ontario, including Ottawa, Windsor, Hamilton, and Toronto, and will do our best to inform you of any local supports that might be helpful (e.g., local crisis lines or drop-in centres).
We also provide the following services
-
Our team has experience working with numerous clinical presentations, including eating disorders which requires specialized knowledge and skills. Contact us if you or your team is interested in furthering your knowledge and skills in the assessment and treatment of children/adolescents with eating disorders.
-
Members of our team split their time between this private practice and local training hospitals. We would be happy to connect with you to discuss your supervision needs. We take a developmental approach to clinical supervision.
-
A recent survey by Children’s Mental Health Ontario reported found that 80% of parents/caregivers stated that their work life was impacted as a result of their child/youth’s mental health and that 1 in 4 parents missed work to care for a child with anxiety.
We have provided numerous presentations and workshops to parents trying to support their child/children with mental health difficulties, and can tailor one to best meet the needs of your staff.
