Dr. Melissa Vloet works with children, adolescents, adults, parents and families who are experiencing a range of difficulties related to mental health concerns, adjustment to major life transitions and/or illness, as well as interpersonal and relationship problems. She has specific interests and extensive experience in the psychological treatment of health conditions (e.g., rumination disorder, chronic pain), Anxiety disorders, Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder, as well as parent-based interventions.

Dr. Vloet uses an integrated, evidence based model of care. Her commitment to collaboration with clients ensures that assessment and treatment are focused on addressing client needs, while at the same time, fostering their strengths and promoting resiliency. Treatment plans draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance Commitment Therapy. Additionally, Dr. Vloet has specific certifications in EFFT (Emotion Focused Family Therapy), CBIT (Cognitive Behavioural Intervention for Tics), SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) and Comfortability interventions. She also provides psychodiagnostic assessments.

Dr. Vloet is an Associate Clinical Professor with The University of Ottawa School of Psychology and has worked and trained in a variety of hospital based settings in Ontario including the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Group (Ottawa and Brockville), the Ottawa Children’s Treatment Centre, and the Ottawa Hospital. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Vloet has developed expertise in health systems and public policy research. She is a graduate of the Canadian Child Health Clinician-Scientist Program and has received grants and awards from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Mental Health Commission of Canada, Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa, and Human Resources and Skills Development Canada. Her past research projects have investigated topics including youth homelessness, transitions between child and adult mental health services, and family adjustment to breast cancer and genetic risk. Whether in research or in therapy, she particularly enjoys working with transition age youth (16-25 years).
